SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (FOX 2) – When a man walked into a Southfield pet grooming store to pay for his dogs, someone drove off with his vehicle and the dogs.
The man put his two dogs inside his 2015 Landrover at the Doggie Styles Pet Salon on 12 Mile near Greenfield on Tuesday afternoon. The vehicle was moving but had the remote control when he entered to pay.
Kelly Styles had just finished with the dogs before they disappeared.
“[I’m] devastated to know these dogs are out there somewhere without their families, “she said.” We washed them, sent them with their Halloween ties. “
Jennifer Weiskirch, the owner of Doggie Styles, said she opened her schedule to dogs because they are loved by store workers.
“They know all the tricks. They are adorable dogs,” Weiskirch said.
Southfield Deputy Police Chief Jeff Jagielski called the thief an “opportunist”. Police said they believed the Landrover was likely dumped because whoever stole it wouldn’t be able to restart it without the keychain.
“If you are still with the dogs, please put them in a safe place to return them to their rightful owner,” Jagielski said.
Weiskirch said she would take the car thief’s dogs, no questions asked, if they don’t want to be in trouble.
