REED CITY – Every day at Happy Tails Pet Grooming is a new, unique and sometimes difficult experience for Misty Hodges.

For over a decade, this is one of the many things she said she loved about owning her own pet grooming business.

Hodges said she loved animals since she was young and always had some sort of furry friend who wandered around when she was growing up.

“Me and the animals get along well,” Hodges said. “It’s still an animal – cat, dog, horses – something.”

Over time, his passion and love for animal care has grown steadily.

After landing her first job as a pet groomer, her desire to stay with the business reached the point where she felt the need to create her own.

“In 2007 I opened my own business and since then I’ve kind of been doing it,” Hodges said.

There are a multitude of things about running Happy Tails that make her proud when she unlocks and opens the doors every morning. Above all, customers who have strengthened their store over time are given priority.

“What I love most is seeing people’s faces when I dogged and cut their hair,” Hodges said. “When I’m able to take a dog that looks like a muffet out and make it look a whole different thing, that’s what I love to do. “

Hodges said this is the time of year when many of his returning clients are making appointments for the next few months.

As it stands, demand for Hodges’ services is on the rise – it is booked until October.

“Usually in November or December my next year is pretty busy,” Hodges said. “I’m usually three to four months ahead of schedule. That’s why most of the people who are my regular clients book year-round appointments.

Hodges said it’s not uncommon for a new customer looking to make an appointment with Happy Tails to be put on a waitlist.

“I make eight to 15 dogs a day,” Hodges said.
