Although the store is small, the love for animals that springs from the walls of All Fur Paws is larger than life. Rhiana Gallagher moved to Fargo with her husband this fall and opened her store in October at 12 Broadway N., providing quality grooming services for dogs, cats and more. But it’s more than just giving Fargo doggies a good scrub.
âI want to support people who take good care of their pets. Their health is so important and grooming is one of them. You have to respond to people to help them. I just want to help people and their animals, âGallagher said.
Gallagher grew up in rural Minnesota and has always had an innate love for animals. When her family moved to Fosston, Minnesota at the age of 16, Gallagher got a job as an assistant in a small town veterinary store that she never thought would lead to a career as a veterinarian. full time grooming.
âI was very lucky to fall into this kind of situation. After a few years they called me one day and told me their groomer had quit and they wanted me to step in, I was around 18 or 19. The technician, who I loved, taught me what I know and we went from there, âsaid Gallagher. âI was able to learn in a really safe environment. They sent me to seminars. After 6 years of working for them, I decided to start my own thing out of my house.
Gallagher then started her grooming business in a room in her trailer in her early 20s, and when she got married and started caring for more animals, her store had to be moved to the garage. Gallagher and her husband, who works in construction, had talked about moving somewhere else and eventually the pieces came together to make that other place Fargo.
âI had such a supportive customer base and it was really heartbreaking to leave them, so I was initially going to set aside a few days to drive to Fosston and work really hard for two or three days and stay with my parents and then go back to home. It was fine, but I didn’t want to do it in the winter. I only did it for two months, “she said.
On a whim, Gallagher decided to look for spaces and I found his current location, which is owned by the same couple who own the space occupied by The Red Silo, and it all came together wonderfully well. Despite the giant tub and shower system that had to be installed, Gallagher said everything went smoothly.
âI contacted the owners – they worked with me on the price and let me do what I wanted. They were so easy to work with. It used to be the Madd Hatter barber shop, which was also a kind of one-woman-show like me, and it was very successful. It gave me some confidence, âsaid Gallagher.
All Fur Paws offers full pet grooming service, and not just for dogs. Although most of the clientele is of the canine variety, Gallagher occasionally takes care of cats and has experience with other smaller animals through his previous veterinary work. Grooming services are comprehensive and include everything from standard coat washing and nail clippings to ear and gland cleaning.
âI get a few cats here and there. I do them to some extent. It’s always one of those things that just depends on your cat’s temperament. They are much less tolerant of grooming than dogs. I always tell people that there is a chance that I can’t finish it if they don’t have it. I don’t want to make them uncomfortable, âsaid Gallagher. âBack at the vet clinic, I used to have birds and guinea pigs and things like that, but they usually require two pairs of hands. I am definitely open to meeting these needs, I just don’t get a lot of requests for it. With some things like that, I can certainly afford it if it’s needed.
All Fur Paws works by appointment only. The best way to make an appointment for your pet for their next grooming day is to message Gallagher through the All Fur Paws Facebook page, but she says she also makes an appointment via texts and calls. . She will always respond to you no matter how you reach her.
âI like to give everyone a chance and provide a stress-free environment. This way, too, I like dates because it works best that way for more nervous dogs and they don’t have to be around other waiting dogs. People can drop the dogs off and I try to be very flexible with my schedule to make sure everyone is comfortable with the arrangement, âsaid Gallagher.
Gallagher was born for a career in helping animals, and it definitely shines through in her downtown business. And that’s not just because your pet will be leaving a fantastic scent for weeks on end, but because of the love that naturally goes into every service.
